The Royal Melbourne/Royal Women's Breast Fellow position was established in 2007 when the two hospitals combined their breast units to for a single combined service. The Combined Breast Service includes all aspects of breast cancer care. There are 5 breast surgeons, 1 breast reconstructive surgeon, 4 breast medical oncologists and a visiting radiation oncologist, and the service is well supported by two registrars and 3 interns, 3 breast care nurses and a dedicated data manager.
The Fellow is involved with all aspects of breast care, including screening, symptomatic diagnostic clinics and familial cancer clinics as well as operating lists including a dedicated breast reconstruction list. Care is delivered in a multidisciplinary manner, with a weekly diagnostic MDM with radiology and pathology, ad a weekly therapeutic MDM with the full range of specialists present.
